The proper JIS screwdriver for your classic Honda. If you've ever had a screwdriver slip out of a carburettor or engine side cover screw and leave the head chewed, this is the tool you need. Made in Japan by VESSEL, this No.2 x 150mm ball grip penetrating screwdriver is one of the most useful drivers you can own for a Monkey, Dax, Chaly, Cub or any other Japanese bike.
Why JIS matters on Japanese bikes
Honda and the other Japanese manufacturers used JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) cross-head screws. They look a lot like Phillips screws, but they aren't the same. A Phillips screwdriver has a different tip profile and tends to cam out (ride up out of the screw head) under load, so on a JIS screw it slips and chews the head, especially when the screw has been in place for decades. That's how so many original screws on carburettors, engine side covers and switch gear end up rounded off. A JIS-pattern driver like this VESSEL sits properly in the screw head, so you can put the force through it and turn the screw instead of damaging it.
Key features
Penetrating (through-type) shaft: the shaft runs right through the handle to a large metal nut on the end that's designed to be struck with a hammer. A sharp tap seats the tip firmly in the screw head and helps break the grip of a seized or corroded screw before you try to turn it.
Ball grip: the large 41mm cushioned ball handle sits comfortably in your palm and lets you push and turn hard without your hand slipping. It's ideal for stubborn screws and long sessions in the workshop.
Precision tip: high-precision black point finish on the tip, with a magnetised tip to help hold the screw.
Chrome vanadium steel shaft with a polypropylene/elastomer cushion grip.
